Entrance

Small bricked up entrance

Description

The entrance has been bricked up to use as a cheese store (1972). After a few metres a steep flowstone slope is descended for 20m into a 2m wide rift passage. This splits at a small chamber, the left hand passage is a meandering rift ending with a large flow formation completely blocking the passage. Straight on from the chamber passes the limit of the cheese remnants and enters a large descending passage 20-25m high (15m wide). This leads to a 5m pitch into the main chamber. At the bottom of the pitch, to the right, a well decorated and partially mud filled series of tube passages leads off, but after a short distance these end in a sediment filled choke containing bones
Straight on from the base of the pitch leads into a large chamber containing superb formations together with evidence of a massive collapse, in the shape of huge slabs (20m x 10m x 10m). the chamber contains large calcite rose crystal growths. A number of passages lead off from the main chamber but do not extend for any great distance.
